Reading at a healthy pace

Nothing here costs money, but an afternoon is still worth protecting. These are the habits we recommend.

Adults only, 18 and over

Open World Story Campaign is written exclusively for people aged 18 or older. The question you answered on arrival is stored locally so you only meet it once per browser. If you are under 18, this campaign is not for you, and we would rather lose a reader than blur that line.

If a device is shared with younger members of a household, operating-system parental controls are far more dependable than any single site's question. They are built into Windows, macOS, iOS and Android at no cost.

Nothing to buy, nothing to win. There are no purchases, deposits, balances, prizes or payouts anywhere on this site. Every chapter is free from the first page to the last, and no journal entry carries value beyond the page it sits on.

When an afternoon has run long

  • You opened a chapter to escape a mood rather than to enjoy an hour.
  • You honestly cannot say how long the tab has been open.
  • Finishing brings relief instead of quiet satisfaction.
  • Sleep, work, study or the people near you keep moving down the list.
  • You would rather nobody knew how much of the week this gets.

None of that is a character flaw. It is a signal, and a walk answers it better than another chapter.

Habits that genuinely help

  1. Choose the length before you open anything. Half an hour decided in advance beats two hours that simply happened.
  2. Keep the timer away from the screen. A kitchen timer is harder to negotiate with than a clock in a tab.
  3. Get up between chapters. A minute of movement resets attention far better than a new chapter does.
  4. Do not read tired or upset. Both stretch the session and shrink the pleasure.
  5. Keep one evening a week entirely screen-free. The shelf feels better as a choice than a routine.

Stepping away

There is no self-exclusion switch here, because no money is ever at risk. If you want real distance, block this domain in your browser or router and clear the local entries described in our Cookie Policy. Clearing them also removes any traveller name you created.

Talking to someone qualified

If your relationship with games of any kind is causing distress, please speak with a doctor or a licensed counsellor where you live. Public health services and non-profit helplines are free and confidential, and an early conversation is much easier than a late one.

If something about this site itself makes stopping harder, tell us on the write to us page. That feedback shapes what we do next.

Are you 18 or older?

This campaign is written for adults. Please answer before the first chapter opens.

Everything inside is free social play with no purchases and no prizes of any kind. Continuing means you accept our Terms of Use and have read our Play Gently notes.

Your traveller

Kept in this browser alone. No email, no server, nothing payable.

Names are written to this browser only, so a traveller started here will not exist on another device.

We keep a few local entries so the campaign remembers your age answer and your traveller name. Nothing is sold, shared or used for advertising — the full list is in our Cookie Policy.
